Project Management

Description

The work developed by organizations generally involves both operations and projects, even when both can be overlapped. Operations and projects share many characteristics, i.e:

  • Performed by people.
  • Restricted by limited resources.
  • Planned, executed and controlled.

Operations and projects differ essentially because the operations are continuous and repetitive, whereas projects are temporary and unique. A project can then be defined according to its distinctive characteristics – a project is an entrepreneurship limited in time performed to create a unique product or service.

Projects can involve a person or hundreds of people. Its duration varies from a few weeks to several years. Projects can involve a single unit of the organization or may involve other external entities. Projects are often implemented as a mean to execute a strategic plan, because they are instruments by means of which strategies are implemented.
